Why Jesus said, 'Give ye them to eat' in the Gospels?
Not once, but thrice Jesus said 'Give ye them to eat' in the Bible where the mention of Five Loaves Two Fishes In the book of Matthew, Mark and Luke.
And in the book of John, Jesus asked Philip, 'Whence shall we buy loaves, that these may eat?'
And Jesus said this to Philip is to try him. Jesus had said thrice to them, now He is trying their understanding.
John 6:5: "5 Jesus then having lifted up [his] eyes and having seen that a great multitude doth come to him, saith unto Philip, `Whence shall we buy loaves, that these may eat?` --"
John 6:6: "6 and this he said, trying him, for he himself had known what he was about to do."
Jesus truly mean what He said.
'Give ye them to eat'
Just like Jesus give him, us to eat. The Word tells us about Jesus, His Life, Jehovah is Salvation.
We too, who follow Jesus to do the same.
Tell people about our life, Jehovah is Salvation. How we come to know Jesus, our own very reason that when we heard we wanted to follow, when we saw we wanted to follow, how we started our Journey with Christ.
'Give ye them to eat'.
This is what we give people to eat.
This is what the Bible say,
1. Having heard did follow (The phase in Matthew)
It begin from us.
Not started from other resting places to hear about Jesus, not by buying, it is free of charge.
We in Christ who are rested are able to bless by sharing our own journey to come to Christ, what we having heard about Him that we started follow Him. The Peace, the Rest.
It started from hearing us at where they are. (follow him on land from the cities; have no need to go away)
Mat 14:13: .. the multitudes having heard did follow him on land from the cities."
Mat 14:16: "16 And Jesus said to them, `They have no need to go away -- give ye them to eat.`"
2. Saw and recognised Him (Testify the work of Jesus, a living testimony - The phase in Mark)
Don't have to go away to lead by, guide, direct and to resting place; no need to buy.
We the living testimony shows the way. We ourselves a living testimony that bless.
Let's set before others the work of Christ that they saw and ran thither, and went before us, and came together to Jesus.
Mar 6:33: "33 And the multitudes saw them going away, and many recognised him, and by land from all the cities they ran thither, and went before them, and came together to him,"
Mar 6:37: "37 And he answering said to them, `Give ye them to eat,` .."
3. Personal encounter - Having known Him (The phase in Luke)
We don't have to go other places to buy for people to eat. Jesus told the twelve, `Give ye them to eat;` Give the twelve, what they having known about Jesus. Share their personal encounter about Jesus, what they known.
Luk 9:11: "11 and the multitudes having known did follow him, and having received them, he was speaking to them concerning the reign of God, and those having need of service he cured."
Luk 9:13: "13 And he said unto them, `Give ye them to eat;` and they said, `We have no more than five loaves, and two fishes: except, having gone, we may buy for all this people victuals;`"
4. The intimate relationship with God - Seeing His signs doing on the ailing (The phase in John)
The people who still following Jesus has been seeing His signs doing on the ailing.
John 6:2: "2 and there was following him a great multitude, because they were seeing his signs that he was doing on the ailing;"
Here we see Jesus trying His disciples' understanding.
📌 Jesus wants us to know, even at this phase (John), His disciples who are having intimate relationship with Him does not has full understand of His teaching.
His Word is so so rich, I believe till the very hour before we return to be with the Father, we are still learning new things from His Word.
In all the four gospels, Jesus told the disciples `Give ye them to eat;` before the disciples said about the five loaves and two fishes.
📌 Share about why we follow Jesus come first before sharing the Word. People hear from us first before they receive their feeding from the teaching at the assemblies.
Jesus assures us,
regardless of how much we know about Him, the Bible, the Word, which phase of transformation we are in,
our very own - what we having heard, saw and recognised, having known, seeing his signs doing on the ailing,
will be right for the people we share, that seeds sowed, people wanted to follow Him.
Let's start sharing how God has touches us and changed our life.
Note:
There are a few teachings in the chapters of five loaves and two fishes, this post only share one of them. The rest will be covered in other posts.
